A Short Pause For Cake and Cookies...

I have been cheating on interior design blogs with food blogs lately and I have to admit that it has been keeping me from my favourite distraction this week. For starters, I would like to blame Molly Wizenberg, author of Orangette, for the keeping me away from Jass and Meen with her beautiful writing and funny stories but, most of all, because of the amazingly declicious-looking recipes posted on her blog that have made me spent hours reuniting with my kitchen aid mixer, my oven and all my pots and cake pans.

While I would also like to hold her accountable for exceeding my daily calorie intake everyday for the past month, I shall thank her for inspiring me to make chewy whole-wheat chocolate chunk cookies, light French-style strawberry and yogurt cake and fluffy sour-cream banana cake with chocolate glaze. Shamefully, I confess that it doesn't stop there... Baking is like an addiction, I'm afraid! I have also been busy melting chocolate, sugar and waaaay too much butter for Thomas Haas' famous chocolate sparkle fondant cookies and am now eyeing this ginger-pear upside down cake... or maybe panetonne bread pudding?! I have been told that baking frenzies sometimes come in phases but I am not sure whether to anticipate the moment this madness fades away with excitement or dread. Regardless, not to worry, I will not turn this into a food blog! I will leave that to the pros, Orangette, Smitten Kitchen, Matt Bites, and all the other blogs out there who make you want to quit your job and become Julia Childs.

With holiday cookie exchanges, dinner parties and many festive events around the corner, I have a busy month ahead of me and it seems like it will mostly revolve around eating and wrapping gifts. I have mentioned before that I consider myself a close relative of Santa Claus and devote much time and effort into my favourite holiday, but I promised myself to be disciplined with Jass and Meen and I will.
