Serena & Lily Paints

Ladies and gentleman, I am finally coming around: I am getting bolder with paint colours! Ok, so maybe I haven't actually painted anything yet, but I am thinking about it and that has to count for something...right? Alright, let's just say that I am making progress.

I have mentioned before that an area where I lack a bit of courage and experience is in the colour department, particularly when it comes to the ones you put on your wall. I have taken the safe way and chosen Ralph Lauren's English Tan for most of our rooms and I have been pleased with the results but, for the past little while, the whole beige thing has been getting a little old. It's time for change.

I don't know what I am so afraid of though, seeing as painting is one of the easiest upgrades you can make to your room, not to mention a relatively affordable one, and far from being permanent; if you don't love the results, do it again! If anything, it will be good practice for the next time you decide your bedroom needs a facelift. Don't listen to me though, obviously I have been a wimp with the paintbrush. No longer!

It all started with Serena & Lily, a California duo that offers bedding, fabric, furniture and, of course, paint. I can't even remember which website it was that I was looking at, most likelyremodelista, but when I came across a particular paint sample, I had an instant vision of myself repainting our entire house. In my design bookshelf at home is a huge box of paint samples of all sorts, but for some reason, this particular colour was more inspiring than any of those that I have added to my collection with every visit to the hardware store. It was called Steel, which isn't the most original colour by any stretch of the imagination, but it was enough to get my creative brain waves activated. Naturally, I was curious and went looking for more info and, as it turns out, I really liked what I saw and even ordered the catalogue (which I never do). Here are a few of my favourites (I am particularly fond of Pool and Air. And Steel of course) ...

Wharf
Vanilla
Sterling
Steel
Pool
Persimmon
Juice
Hydrangea
Dove
Chambray
Air
