When I was in my second year of University, I had a prof who interrupted a very interesting course on social media for a much needed lesson in everyday language. What he wanted to discuss was the abuse and overuse of the word 'awesome', particularly in the age group that he was teaching to. The way he explained it was simple and straightforward and, I couldn't help but agree with his argument.
The word 'awesome' means "extremely impressive or daunting, inspiring great admiration." It should not be used to answer any banal question or statement in a conversation. When a friend states that he or she will meet you at a certain time and place, the correct answer is not "awesome!". This word should be reserved for things that are truly amazing.
Since then, I have continued to overhear the term all too frequently but have refrained from using it so loosely myself. So you can believe me when I say that what I am about to show you I personally find awesome:
photo: Jass and Meen
Last month, I fell in love with this photograph. I saw it in a furniture store and I was immediately taken with it and that is not something that happens to me very often when it comes to wall art. I have had it on my mind since then. I can't really afford it (correction: I really can't afford it) but I like to think that I will be able to get it anyway, that's just how my little brain works. It would look amazing over my bed on our freshly painted wall. (p.s. photos coming soon, one coat left to apply!)
I do like horses in general and find riding to be one of the best ways to spend an afternoon, though I don't do it very often and do not actually look graceful on a horse at all (yet!). I just think horses are fascitating to watch and I find this particular photograph to be very powerful but peaceful and soothing at the same time.
It was taken by an artist by the name of Adele Sypesteyn. To be exact, her husband takes photos and she does the rest of the work, turns them into beautiful pieces. I think the photos are great, and obviously, to me, the subject is captivating. Most of all, I like the textures in this photo. It is hard to tell on a computer screen but the photographs have a glossy finish and they look like they have been mounted onto tile or some kind of rough surface.
